We chat with Jordan Pickford!

HI JORDAN, WHO ARE YOUR TOP THREE KEEPERS OF ALL-TIME?

Jordan says: "Peter Schmeichel, Thomas Sorensen, Gianluigi Buffon! There’s no order. Sorensen was the keeper at Sunderland when I was a really young lad. Peter Schmeichel I used to like watching play in Champions League nights, pulling off saves, then you’ve got Buffon who’s an absolute legend. I got his shirt last year when he was on the bench against England. I thought: ‘I need his shirt’, I asked him for it and he gave it to me!"

WHAT DID YOU SAY TO BUFFON?

Jordan says: "Not many people can understand me, none of the England lads can! Buffon just said ‘All the best, and good luck’. I might’ve met Sorensen when I was very young and I was at the training ground asking for autographs. My brother was at Darlington and Kasper Schmeichel came on loan and I was at his first game. Peter Schmeichel came down to watch. I was very young and quite starstruck!"

HOW DO YOU HANDLE BEING LINKED WITH CHAMPIONS LEAGUE CLUBS?

Jordan says: "I think it’s relatively easy to handle, you’re going to see it, I’m on social media. You just have to knuckle down and keep working hard. I think it just shows that you’re doing well and that the hard work pays off if stuff like that happens. I’ve just got to keep working hard – that’s my mentality!"

TELL US ABOUT YOUR FIRST COACH, MARK PRUDHOE!

Jordan says: "Oh, he’s just a legend isn’t he? He’s a guru, he knows what you need as a keeper. He was my first keeper coach from U8s. He left then came back during my first year as a pro and he just knows how I want to work, what I needed day-in-day-out and he knew how to get me ready for a game. His experience of first team football is second to none and he knows the game inside out. After every game I’ll try and get in touch with him even though he is quite hard to get hold of!"

DO YOU JOIN IN WITH THE OUTFIELD PLAYERS AT EVERTON TO HELP YOUR FOOTWORK?

Jordan says: "If there’s any opportunity I’ll get involved if I can, straight away. I think it is a massive help. When I was at Sunderland as a young kid we did a lot of playing outfield as well as goalkeeping. We’d do our goalkeeping, then go a join in outfield. For a young lad it is crucial!"
