We meet the man with magical feet

"If I had to sum up this season in one word"

It would be fantastic! I’ve never known a season like it!

"I don’t know if we will win the Premier League"

We’re confident, we believe we can win it and we dream of winning it - but lets wait until there are five games to go, we’ll know more then!

"I know I have quality"

I have scored some good goals and made some good assists but I didn’t go into the season thinking I would be PFA Player of the Year. But at the end of the season, we will see if I have won!

"Robert Huth and Wes Morgan don’t like me doing my tricks against them in training"

And when I was younger, older opponents would tell me not to do fancy tricks against them. Don’t do that again, they’d say, or I’ll kill you, ha-ha!

"I’m the same player now as I was when I was ten"

I liked dribbling and taking players on and trying out new tricks.

"People said I was too small to make it as a footballer"

They said I was too skinny, I was too slow, they said everything when I was young – but now the same people are saying, Riyad, you’re too sick, you’re too good!

"My advice for kids who have been told they’re too small is to believe in yourself"

If you have the quality, don’t worry. One day someone will see it.

"When I was younger, I used to pretend to be"

Zinedine Zidane. If I was at school now, I’d pretend to be Messi in the playground.

"I supported Marseille when I was growing up"

My favourite players were Didier Drogba and Franck Ribery!

"Neymar is the most skilful player in the world"

It’s his range of tricks. They’re crazy. Can I do the same tricks as him? Nah, don’t compare me to Neymar!

"I used to dream of playing in the Nou Camp when I was younger"

So it’d be amazing, if we finish in the top four, to play there in the Champions League next season!

"I can go to the shops but people still recognise me"

Even with my hood up – so it’s difficult. Last year people started to recognise me but it wasn’t crazy like this year! I enjoy it. They’re young and I remember when I was young as well.

Riyad Mahrez was supporting the biggest grassroots football tournament in the country – the PlayStation Schools’ Cup. Since its launch, over 150,000 players have been involved. Visit playstationschoolscup.com
