Casey Stoney, Jill Scott and Lianne Sanderson!

Three of England's top players took time out to talk to MOTD mag on the eve of the biggest competition in women's football!

WHAT’S IT REALLY LIKE TO PLAY FOR ENGLAND?

Casey says: “You feel like you’re 10ft tall. There’s no feeling like it, there’s so much emotion, so much hard work has gone in to getting you there, you just want to do well for your family, for yourself, and the supporters!”

Lianne says: “It’s the best feeling ever – you can never get used to it! Especially when you see your family in the crowd. Recently we played in front of 50,000 fans at Wembley, to see our family and share that moment with them was nice.”

TELL US ABOUT THE TYPE OF FOOTBALL HEAD COACH MARK SAMPSON LIKES YOU TO PLAY!

Jill says: “He likes to watch Atletico Madrid, the way they press off the ball and how they work hard. His teams are hard working, we put a lot of effort in on and off the pitch which hopefully you’ll see during the World Cup!”

Casey says: “Mark’s been fortunate to have probably the strongest group of players any England Women’s manager has ever had to pick from, especially up front – we have so many forwards to choose from now!”

BE HONEST, DO YOU SING THE NATIONAL ANTHEM?

Casey says: “Absolutely – Loud and proud!”

Lianne says: “We have to! The coach asks us to, but I don’t even think that’s something he needs to ask. Singing the national anthem is such a proud moment, you should belt it out at the top of your lungs – I can’t sing but that’s not the point!”

WHO WILL BE YOUR TOUGEST OPPONENTS IN CANADA?

Jill says: “Our opening game against France will be very tough. They’ve got a lot of pace and a lot of good individual players. We played Germany in November and lost. I liked how they were so organised as a team. There was nobody going off the plan, trying to do their own thing or be the star player.”

WHAT CAN ENGLAND ACHIEVE AT THIS WORLD CUP?

Casey says: “We need to go and do something we’ve never done before: win a knockout game. We’ve been to two quarter finals but we need to go beyond that and perform under pressure when it counts and that’s where we’ve fallen down in previous tournaments.”
